World

AMIFINA
The world Lumen Dei takes place in. War and peace are constantly interchanging, magic is common place, and Gods and Goddesses are often walking amongst the mortals as they please. There are several continents ruled by kings and queens, emperors and empresses alike--indeed, whole continents are controlled by a single leader at times, though not without assistance.

CORTAIRS
Ruled by the Ryukama family; capital city Degero
A single continent in Amifina, known to have the most powerful spell-casters due to its legendary close involvement with the Gods and Goddesses of all kinds. The empire is deeply rooted in ancient traditions and beliefs that outsiders at times have trouble adjusting to. The entire continent is divided by the Scindo River, and further separating the northern and southern halves, the Summa Mountain Range. This makes traveling from the north to the south very difficult without the use of a ship.
The southern half of Cortairs has a much smaller population than the northern half because the land is generally much drier, making it hard to cultivate and live on. There are major cities in the desert, however, centered around mining precious minerals out of the sands. They get their water primarily from underground caverns and from trading with smaller villages along the coasts and minor rivers.
The island in the Amnis Sea, home to the city of Altus, is said to be a sacred place. Those who live in Altus often hold rituals and ceremonies that date back to very ancient times. They prefer not to let their traditions be watered down through time, thus the caretakers of the island almost never welcome outsiders--not even the royal family is ever greeted warmly there. Many legends are centered around Altus and the island, but Altus's residents don't allow scholars to ever explore the island too deeply.

NIVÉ
Ruled by the Malda family; capital city Candth
A land almost completely frozen, covered in ice and snow. Thanks to the use of magic, however, people have been able to thrive in Nivé. Nivé's strength lies in its intelligent leaders. Its army and navy were at one time said to be the strongest in Amifina.

MILAS
Ruled by the Filarena family; capital city Silépua
One of the "twin nations." Milas is almost always controlled by women, and is very rich in culture. Milasian crafts and weapons are always extremely well made and durable. The current leader of Milas is the cousin of the current leader of Dolas.

DOLAS
Ruled by the Kandverg family; capital city Fildstol
The second "twin nation." Dolas, unlike Milas, is almost always controlled by men. Dolasians pride themselves on their powerful military. Their armies use weapons crafted by the people of Milas.

BALAGERTT
Ruled by the Shandarc family; capital city Keledah
A nation far to the south of the others, and the smallest of them all. Balagertians are a very secluded people, who don't like to involve themselves in the matters of the rest of the world. They're very focused on development, science, and invention, as opposed to tradition and magic studies.

The Existence of Dragons

Dragons do in fact exist in the world. However, unlike in days past, when they actively involved themselves in the affairs of humans, very few still live in human cities. There is generally no bad blood between the two, especially because communication between them is easy; the two of them simply began to separate as populations of both increased.
Dragons come in all shapes and sizes, and there are different "races" within the species. They are also more naturally gifted with magic, and are considered those closest to the Gods.

Gods and Goddesses

The stories of the Gods and Goddesses vary; some were once mortals, some are the very ancient creators of the world, and some were immortals born from mortal parents.
